Greater Dublin Independent Living

Greater Dublin Independent Living is an organisation of people with disabilities, who seek to empower and enable people with disabilities to enhance their quality of life, to assist them in achieving Independent Living and, to assist them in participating in social and economic life. People with disabilities seek to gain their rightful place in society and to have the same access to all life’s opportunities, which are already being afforded to many of their non-disabled counterparts.

How we help our members

Leaving Home
Driving Freedom Wheels
Communication with pa's
Planning a holiday
Going to college
Gaining Employment

Peer Mentoring

We link people with disabilities who are successfully living independently with other people with disabilities who need help, advice and support. Mentors can support a person leaving home or a residential setting, learning to drive, communication with PA’s, applying for a local authority house, planning a holiday, taking public transport, going to college, adapting a house, applying for a job, going to a wedding, Direct Payments, relationship issues etc.

Freedom Wheels

Freedom Wheels is a wheelchair accessible vehicle that is available to people with disabilities – at a minimal cost. We know that this is an important provision in terms of respite care opportunities for individuals and families of a person with a disability. Freedom Wheels can be used for holidays, cultural, sporting and community events which would not have been possible without an adapted vehicle.
